How "Socially Savvy" Are Dutch Agencies? (part 3)
Wednesday, February 24, 2010 by Jurgen Appelo
When checking how marketing and communications agencies use
different social networks, we noticed a few interesting things:
First of all, about 51% of the agencies have a
company page on LinkedIn. That seems like a lot. But considering
how easy it is to create a company profile on LinkedIn (which is
almost maintenance free) it is actually not that much. On top of
that, about 3% of the agencies have created their
own LinkedIn group. But they usually create such a group for
(ex-)employees, and only rarely for customers.

About 11% of the marcom agencies have a public
presence on Hyves. (There are actually more, but those are shielded
from the public and are apparently only for internal use.) This is
more than the number of Dutch agencies on Facebook. But with
6% Facebook doesn't seem that far behind. Out of
those 6% roughly 4% of the agencies have a
Facebook page, while 2% have a Facebook
group.
We also had a look at the content that the agencies produce.
Here it is evident that most of that concerns videos and pictures.
Out of 200 companies, we counted 17 agencies with
a YouTube account, and 12 with a Flickr account.
Interestingly enough, competing networks Vimeo and Picasa were not
present among the 200 companies in our random sample.

Other types of content were found in the form of presentations
(4x SlideShare), bookmarks (3x
Delicious), and music (1x Last.fm).
