How "Socially Savvy" Are Dutch Agencies? (part 2)

The first thing that we noticed in our
social media research was that Twitter is more popular
than blogging among the 200 random marketing &
communication agencies that we evaluated.

It turns out that 24% of the agencies have an
active Twitter account, while only 17% of them are
actively blogging. (This may not come as a surprise to some of us,
as tweeting with just 140 characters is far easier to do than
blogging.)
When we look at the different types of agencies it gets even
more interesting. We then see that PR agencies
(50%) and Internet agencies (44%)
are the most active users of Twitter. Both types of agencies have
roughly twice as many Twitter feeds than blog feeds (our blog count
stood at 25% and 20%
respectively).

Our findings are somewhat different for design agencies and ad
agencies. These types of agencies tweet about as much as they blog
(17%/13% and
16%/16% respectively), while both
channels are apparently used on a smaller scale than in the case of
the PR and Internet agencies. It seems that PR and Internet
agencies are more "socially savvy" than design and ad agencies.
An anomaly was found in the case of media agencies, where we
found only Twitter feeds (18%) and no blogs. This
may be due to the small sample size. (There were only 11 media
agencies in our sample of 200 businesses.)
